On April 8, 2024, a partial solar eclipse will cross North America. The eclipse is expected to start at 11:54 am and will peak at 12:46 pm. It's predicted to end by 1:39 pm. 

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and Earth, blocking the sun's face. While many parts of Canada will experience a total solar eclipse, in our area, we will be treated to a partial eclipse, as if the moon is sitting in front of the sun and taking a giant bite out of it.

Fun fact: The last total solar eclipse occurred on August 21, 2017; before that one, you have to go all the way back to February 26, 1979! The next solar eclipse won't be for 20 more years: August 23, 2044.

Parents - our schools are aware of this event and may be modifying their schedules and activities that day to ensure students who are in scheduled classes during this time are safe and indoors during the time of the eclipse. 

Just a quick reminder, it's crucial to protect your eyes during the eclipse. Looking directly at the sun can seriously harm your eyes and even cause blindness. To be safe, please use proper eye protection such as eclipse glasses or a special solar filter. Please note that sunglasses are not effective for this purpose. Stay safe and enjoy the eclipse!
